Vintage Design

Monumental handwoven vintage wool flatweave runner (460 × 169 cm / 15'1" × 5'6") from the Oltenian folk weaving tradition of southern Romania — vivid bright green field with rhythmic folk geometric-floral motifs in a saturated palette of chocolate brown, fuchsia, white, teal, orange, and black. Fringe ends. At 15'1" long this is the longest Romanian folk runner in our entire collection — a genuinely exceptional find. Bright green field Oltenian scoarță runners in this length and condition are among the rarest pieces in Romanian folk textile tradition.
Oltenian scoarță rugs are one of the most celebrated regional traditions in Romanian weaving — known for their bold geometric-floral structure, electric color combinations, and rhythmic energy that feels remarkably contemporary today. Romanian hand-woven rugs were included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in December 2016, recognized as an expression of creativity, identity, and social cohesion passed down through generations. Each piece in our collection is a genuine artifact of this living tradition, personally curated over 20 years of collecting in Romania.
Technique: handwoven on a traditional loom, 100% wool, natural/vegetable dyes. Flatweave / scoarță-kilim profile — lies perfectly flat. Fringe ends. Condition: good vintage, clean and ready to use. No odor, no holes, no repairs. Minor age-appropriate signs and gentle storage creases — will relax when laid flat.
