Six designs that warm the heart of New York interior designer Lucy Harris

Lucy’s Wish List

New York-based interior designer Lucy Harris has a knack for creating homes that are highly composed—minimal elements, thoughtfully arranged—and yet they always feel down to earth and full of personality. We love how she effortlessly mixes design classics with unexpected contemporary accents and crafts.

Lucy’s thoughts about the holiday season are as warm and inviting as her work. “The holidays are about spending time with the people I love, and maintaining traditions brings brightness to my life,” she told us. “As the darkness descends in the month before the winter solstice, I crave having friends and family over to my home to warm up with tea!” Her design wish list this year is just as stylish and friendly—check it out...

T35-B Dining Table by Pierre Chapo for Seltz (1970s)

“A solid wood dining table will last for generations, and this Pierre Chapo captures my heart with its lyrical shape, beautiful graining and joinery, and utter timelessness.”

B5 Chairs by Marcel Breuer for Tecta (1970s)

Marcel Breuer designed some of the earliest tubular steel chairs. This particular Breuer design really embodies the lines and shapes of the Bauhaus—a period very near to my heart for its merging of craft and design—and the green canvas warms things up!”

Hekla Pendant by Pétur B Luthersson & Jón Ólafsson for Fog & Mørup (1960s)

“What could warm you up more than a light that was named after an active volcano? That shape and warm glow!"

Silver-Plated Tea Set (1960s)

“I think tea really unites the world! Teapots were very important in my family, because my mother and brother are ceramicists and, being from New England, I grew up on cambric tea.  The patina on this silver teapot is stunning and will only improve with age over time as you add your own tea stories to it.”

Hues Kitchen Textiles Set by Rive Roshan (2017)

“I love that these textiles are multi-purpose, and you can use them for tea-drinking napkins, kitchen towels, or placemats. I aim to be a minimalist, but I often fall short with textiles since I love them so much!

Eclipse II Wall Hanging by Trine Ellitsgaard  (2013)

“Warm up your space with this beautiful wall hanging woven in Oaxaca by Trine Ellitsgaard . Textile wall hangings are a great way to bring softness to a space and have a wonderful, historic tradition.”
