About this Museum

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (LA MOCA) is the only museum in Los Angeles committed exclusively to contemporary art. Created in 1979, the MOCA is housed in three different facilities: the MOCA Grand Avenue, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, and MOCA Pacific Design Center. These venues host a variety of work produced since 1940, including notable Abstract Expressionist and Pop Art pieces by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and Mark Rothko. They also host a variety of design-related events each year, including the Designer Lecture Series and the annual WestWeek fair.

LA MOCA also boasts works by artists specifically connected to the L.A. area, such as Kiki Smith, Mike Kelley and David Hockney, among others. Additionally, its collection contains significant postwar, primarily American, documentary photography, including works from Brassaï, Diane Arbus, Lee Friedlander and Robert Frank’s complete landmark series, The Americans.
