Folkestorp Stool from Ikea, 1999

The piece of furniture shown is the "Folkestorp" stool from IKEA, which, according to the label, was designed and produced in 1999.

The stool impresses with its organic, single-piece bent shape, strongly reminiscent of the molded plywood technique popularized in the 20th century by Alvar Aalto and Charles & Ray Eames.

The minimalist lines, rounded edges, and the absence of visible joints give the piece a sober, modern appearance that is entirely in keeping with Scandinavian functionalism. The inward-drawn, slightly cut-out legs not only provide visual lightness but also ensure good stability.

The stool is made of laminated, multi-bent plywood with a veneered top veneer in a light shade – most likely birch, which was commonly used at IKEA at the time.

The surface has a matte finish, which highlights the natural grain of the wood while also providing a certain degree of protection against wear. The lightweight construction, combined with high stability and stackability, makes the stool particularly versatile – as a side table, step stool, or seat.

The condition of the piece is good considering its age. The surface shows slight signs of wear in the form of small scratches and occasional dents, especially on the sides. Overall, however, the stool is very well-maintained, structurally stable, and visually appealing.
