Jordi Canudas

Jordi Canudas was born in Barcelona in 1975 and studied in London at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2007 with a Master’s Degree in Design Products. Following the completion of his studies, Canudas launched his eponymous design studio in London in 2007 while also joining the London-based collective and post-production house OKAY Studio. Canudas returned to Barcelona in 2011, where he also teaches at the Escola Superior de Disseny Elisava.

As a designer, Canudas’ conceptually driven practice spans the domains of product design and development —particularly of innovative lighting and clever, modular furniture pieces— as well as art direction, interiors, and one-off production. The lighting pieces Dipping Light (2014) or Less Lamp (2008) —an egg-shaped lamp designed for the MoMA Design Shop that must be broken with a custom designed hammer before it can be used— for example, both embody the process in the final product and allow influence from the collector. Canudas’ work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, Germany as well as been exhibited internationally including at the London Design Week, Designeast 03 in Osaka, Aram Gallery, London, and the International Furniture Fair in Cologne.
