BCXSY

Eindhoven, Netherlands

Based in The Netherlands, BCXSY is the multidisciplinary design firm of partners Boaz Cohen (born in 1978 in Israel) and Sayaka Yamamoto (born in 1984 in Japan).

Cohen moved to The Netherlands in 2001, and studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven from 2001 until 2006. He interned with Walter Van Beirendonck in 2004 and 2005. Yamamoto graduated from the Hiko Mizuno Jewelry College in Tokyo in 2005. She moved to the Netherlands that same year, and studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven’s Man & Identity program, graduating in 2008.

The design duo established BCXSY in January 2007, and continues to work on concept-, product- and environmental-designs both independently and collaboratively. Since launching PLAY!, BCXSY’s first experimental, collaborative project, at Salone del Mobile in 2007, the studio has created a variety of designs—notably the ongoing Origins series, which, along with several other collaborative projects, is often characterized by a potent contemporary expression as well as a strong link to the essence of the technique and materials used.
