It is typical Art Deco, 1930s, it is geometric, powerful and spectacular in its size and volume. It is very stylized with important chasing times. Irénée Félix René Rochard, born January 16, 1906 in Villefranche-sur-Saône and died March 29, 1984 in Paris, in the 15ᵉ arrondissement, is a French ornamental sculptor known for his representations of animals in the Art Nouveau style. Mostly working in bronze, he creates many figurines in marble, ceramic or wood. Rochard is fascinated by animals and creates sculptures inspired by them, born of his meticulous observation. Born in 1906 in Villefranche-sur-Saône into a family of artists, he studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris where he met Francois Pompon and Edouard Marcel Sandoz. In 1938, he became a member of the Society of French Artists, winning a gold medal at the 1931 Colonial Exhibition. Many of his works were acquired by the Council of the City of Paris and the city of New York. Rochard died in 1984 in Paris. The tusks were carved by hand. The black marble is original, it is a marble that is regularly found in the decorative arts. It bears the annotation Bronze under one tab, and the Rochard signature at the tip on the marble, the quality is there. For the condition, note friction and patina wear on the sides, legs, trunk, a scratch on one side, all visible in the photos.
